How to sell your reborns

As in any collection, there will likely come a time when you decide to sell. Maybe you’ve lost the bond, you’ve had an unexpected vet bill, or you just fancy a bit of a change. There are many reasons to sell, and many reborns for sale, so it’s important to know how best to present your babies to attract a buyer.

Do:

  • Take clear pictures in natural lighting

  • Include close up pictures of your baby’s details, especially any imperfections

  • Offer references

  • Add a safety picture

  • Accurately describe your reborn:

    • Sculpt

    • Artist

    • Size and weight

    • Whether they have a magnet

    • Whether they are from a smoke and/or pet free home

    • Price

Don’t:

  • Take pictures in a dark room, or in direct sunlight

  • Obscure the baby’s face with a hat/dummy

  • Include blurry pictures

  • Only post your baby for sale in one place

  • Price your babies too high or too low (see below for more advice on pricing)

How to price your reborns

A good rule of thumb, is to price them at what you paid, or slightly lower.

Several things can lower the price of a baby:

  • Imperfections, such as paint rubs or hair loss

  • Loss of certificate of authenticity/paperwork

  • Popularity of the sculpt

  • Shine from frequent handling

  • Number of previous owners

Conversely, a reborn can maintain or increase in value for several reasons:

  • Popularity & rarity of the sculpt (in particular, Sold Out Limited Editions such as Lou Lou)

  • Artist popularity/rarity

  • Pristine condition

Keep these in mind when coming up with a price for your reborn. In general, pre-loved babies tend to sell for a bit less than new reborns of similar quality. If in doubt, I recommend reaching out to the community for guidance on how to price your reborns.

Where to sell

  • There are hundreds of reborn Facebook groups, most of which allow sales of reborns. Here are a few recommendations to get you started:

    Baby Glam

    Reborn Baby Group UK

    Reborn Babies Under £200 UK

    Everything Reborn (US based)

  • When selling through eBay, all of the above still applies. Remember that eBay will charge a fee, so build that into your price. Have the ‘starting bid’ be a price that you would be willing to sell the doll for, otherwise you may end up selling for significantly less than you wanted. Alternatively, only offer a ‘buy it now’ price.

  • If you are selling a large number of dolls, consider getting a stand at your nearest Doll Show.

If you have a dedicated reborn Instagram/TikTok or other social media, share your dolls for sale on there.

Vinted and Facebook marketplace are good alternatives, but be prepared to receive messages from the general public, and low offers on your reborn.
